to run your vette without any exhaust pipes? I want to drive my vette to the muffler shop to get the pipes attached to the headers but want to make sure I am not causing any harm first. The headers are on the engine.
Extremely hot exhaust gases right in the engine compartment that have not traveled far or burned fully can be bad. You run the risk of igniting any raw fuel that has not fully burned.

Oh  Glad I asked. Do not want that!! Thanks for the good information. Once again you all from this forum have saved another vette from distruction.
Also...(and this is from the old school), running an engine without exhaust pipes allows cool ambient air to be drawn backward into the engine when you shut it off. One time shouldn't hurt...but it can WARP VALVES.

I hope you have asked IF they will do the work you want. In this state (WASHINGTON) most muffler shops won't touch a car unless it is to restore it back to factory condition.

Not disagreeing with you, just wanting more clarification. How is this going to harm the valves if cooler air comes in through the intake? Thanks...

He didn't say intake, so I presume he means back through the exhaust manifold from backpressure?
