Ping or Knock?
I know I will get a lot of :crazy: looks from you smartter fellas, but what is the diff between a knock or a ping. Mine is doing one or the other really baddly under heavy loads(WOT) :confused:

I would dare to say that you have a ping........that's what the egr and knock sensor are supposed to take care of but at WOT the egr doesn't work. Your timing may be a little too far advanced or you may need a higher octane gas.
A knock on the other hand sounds like someone beating on the front door with a hammer..............and is usually a mettalic sound down deep .... it can also sometimes be heard a an idle........... (expensive)

Hey Big Guy,
You really want to get the ping problem fixed. Very Very bad for the engine. The piston is moving up and the explosion is trying to move it back down.
The piston sitting next to my tool box has the ring lands collapsed around the rings, piston was slapping against the cylinder wall, and the transition from ping to knock was complete.
