Default 86 L98 intake upgrade

Hi folks. I am planning an intake upgrade for this summer. I have an iron head L98 which is stock. I currently have bosch 24 lb injectors.
I recently got a deal on an edelbrock hi flow intake manifold and am on the hunt for larger runners to add to it. I will be cleaning out the castings and gasket matching the intake, runners and plenum as well as siamesing the plenum and runners. When I get this together I will add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
What I would like to ask the experts is if the 24 lb injectors are fine for this setup, if so what is a good FP to run with? If I need bigger injectors, what size and FP?
Future plans are to add headers and high flow cats and possibly 1.6 rockers. That would be the extent of modifications to this motor.
Thank you for your input.
Dave

I was looking for the sizing chart for injectors on Jim's site and found this summary of SBC injection. http://www.jimsperformance.com/portinj.html

Jim redid my '84 harness for the SD (90 ECM) my car now runs from.

A good read for many of us.

There is a table on a few sites that specifies injector size, based upon the engine's HP.

24 lbs is plenty, and you should start with stock pressure and then test on a dyno or track if youre going to do it right.

But the better method would be to have the chip reprogrammed after you're done with the intake and exhaust changes.

Thank you Vader. My plan was to dyno or do a custom chip after I was done with everything if it was needed. I don't really have any horsepower goal in mind, just want to ditch the 305 intake and make it a real 350.

Just read your thread, look into Blowerworks on line if your car does not run the way you want. They have a system to tune your Ob1 computer. I bought his air flow meter system and the ostrich tuner system. Best improvement ever made to my 87. Made it a different car, performance wise. Use to have a lot of mass airflow problems. This system allows you to take advantage of any upgrades you have done to your engine/headers/exhaust etc. Good luck You can tune real time with computer lap top. Cost is about $1,000 for everything. I bought it about 2 yrs ago

I too have the Eldelbrock. manifold. I also have theEldelbrock high flow runners. Had to do ALOT of grinding on the inside of the runners.. casting just wasn't cleaned up . I was very disappointed in the factory fresh product as I have used their stuff for years and years. BUT, but, after a short bit of work with the grinder I am happy with the product. These are some of the best runners out there. Trying to get my 86 into the 13ings

Keep us updated, I am doing basically the same upgrades to my 85 this year. I have purchased a TPIS Big Mouth intake, SLP runners, and TPIS LT headers.

I also plan on aluminum heads, cam, and tune but that is unlikely to happen until next winter at the earliest.

I am unsure if I want to replace the intake system this spring or go all in when I have the funds for the heads and cam and have them installed because I do not yet have the knowledge to tackle that job.

My goal is 300 rwhp.

Which runners seem to fit the best and be the best for performance? I am also looking to upgrade my intake. I have been watching ebay for deals.

The consensus seems to be AS&M are the best but are hard to find and expensive when you do find them, Edelbrock and SLP are similar SLPs are no longer being made you can buy new Edelbrocks for $355 from Scoggin-Dickey https://sdparts.com/details/edelbrock/3865 TPIS are also very hard to find.

Dt86. My advice is have your runners and heads ported also. Since you are going to replace the intake, taking the heads off will be no problem. Need to know how to adjust the valves. Just finished a top-in rebuild at 130,000 miles. I had a Race shop clean and port mine, and a good friend to adjust the valves. If you can port the heads yourself you’ll save some cash. I have an 88 so I had the runners, intake, and heads cleaned, rebuilt and ported, cost $750. I installed new injectors and fuel pump. For a 25 year old car that only had 245 HP, the 88 runs quite well (a 700R4 rebuild helps also). Want peel a wheel though.

Man your 88 looks great! Im not going to do the heads, they are cast iron. Maybe 1.6 roller rockers. The rest of the car is tore down for paint and Ill have expenses with that. After this mod Im going to try and save up for my next vette. 96 LT4.

I thought of changing rockers also but the $300, I decided not too. I was saving for a C7.

Well it took a bit longer than expected but its done. Ported the intake and runners quite a bit. Have a small vacuum leak to run down still.
