Dumb question of the day:
Does a 96 have inner tie rods ends?? I didn't seem them listed on the Zip site. They have the outer ones listed for $50. There would have to be innner tie rod ends, i would think, or is there something else used to connect the shaft to the steering rack?
A rack and pinion setup does not use the typical inner tie rod ends that a recirculating ball type steering setup has. The inner tie rods on the rack and pinion connect to either end of the rack with a 'wobble' joint and the shaft runs from inside the boot on either side out to the outer ends. These can be replaced, but it is a little more difficult. Special tools are required. Hope this answers your question..

thanks for responding... I have this pop when I go lock to lock. I'm thinking I have a bad tie rod end. Feels like a bad tie rod end. Had one on my C5. Does the "wobble" joint end handle more of the load and would wear out faster then the outer end??? Do you know of any way to test to see if the outer or inner end is worn?
You could jack it up and holding wheel at 9 and 3 try and move it while watching the tie rod and steering wheel. If the wheel moves and the steering wheel doesn't, then look at the rack end of the tie rod and if its moving there, it could be the inner. They don't go back real often as they are covered by the boot and have grease on them.
