Ive got an 87' auto that needs a tranny, Ive taken it to a place out in town that I thought was going to give me a good quote along with a excellent job. Well they pulled the transmission and checked it out. Thay said the tranny needed to be rebuilt. The quote including tax came out to $2584.00 for the complette rebuild, changing the stall in the converter, with a 24 month/ 24k mile warranty all out the door with a 3 day turn around. What do you guys think? Is this too much too pay for the job...? What ve some of you guys payed for the job? I know I cant rebuild it myself so I have to pay somebody to do it....
I had AAMCO rebuild the tranny in a '93, cost a bit over $1800 but I don't recommend them. I put a GM Goodwrench tranny in my '95 for something over $2600, but thats the electronically controlled model that costs more. You get a 3 yr.50K warranty good at any Chevy/GM dealer. I think your guy is high, but you are now stuck for the work they did.
That does seem high. I got an estimate from AAMCO for about $1500 w/perf tranny and shift kit. I don't have tranny probs yet, so maybe no damage inside makes estimate lower. Stiill, that's a lot of $$. Too bad it is too late to shop around some. Swallow hard and smile , I guess.
That's a little high! Get a second opinon from another shop. It might be better to buy a rebuilt one from a specialized trans shop and give them your core.
If they took it apart and then gave you the estimate, they must have found some hard parts that needed replacement. For that price, you may be able to buy a new one or a serious race tranny.
