Just got done bleeding the power stearing fluid for the first time in who knows how long.
The old fluid was almost black.
I didn't expect much change, but WOW. The stearing is soooo much smoother and responds soooo much better and no more morning sickness :D
If you havn't done this is a while I Highly recommend doing it.
Took about 10-15min to do, using the turky baster method.
I thought my steering rack was shot but flushing the fluid a couple of times made a really big difference. It still isnt perfect but it doesnt bother me anymore. You may want to change it a couple of more times as you cant get everything out by emptying the reservoir? (I assume the turkey blaster is used to sucking up the fluid?) I switched to another color of PS fluid and after about 5 changes it began to clear up.
One other thing along the same lines that made a difference I could not believe is doing the same to the brake fluid.
I did this about a month ago and I could not believe the difference it made. Before the change I had a terrible time doing a standing still burnout with street tire and nearly impossible with slicks. It would spin the tires but eventually push the car forward.
It was simple with the cheap bleeder system from Autozone. I went through 2 pints of the fluid until all the old stuff was flushed.
Now I can just barely touch the brakes and do a burnout as long as I like with no movement. Also stopping distances were greatly reduced. I got to test it the other day when a tractor trail pulled out across two lanes infront of me. The ABS kicked in too. If I hadn't of done the fluid change, I probably would have been under the truck!
Great advice on the PS fluid change. I will pick some up ASAP.

Yeah I plan on doing it a few more times over the next month to really get the fluid as clean as possible.
This sounds like a good thing to add to the list of stuff I will do in the spring when I bring the beast out of its long winters nap... Thanks for the tip.
Sounds like something I could do while I've got it apart. No way to actually drain it? Just have to suck out as much fluid as possible and pour more in?
