Default Help My Pick Out My New Rims... (ADVICE)

Hey Guys... First Thing is... I dont want chrome or polished... I want black... so... What do you guys think... feel free to use my sig pic to put the rims on it to see what it looks like.... Im not sure which ones to get.... Will the 18in rims fit under my fender wells in the back with the Y2ks?? Which offset would I want with the Grand Sport Rims?? Will my Goodyear Eagle F1s 275/40/17s fit on the front of the Y2ks???

Thanks All

18"s will fit well in the back, but ive always been worried about the front scraping the hood or something.

I like the rims you have now, for that color. I dont think black rims would look so good on aqua. But i voted for the GS rims, youll need the 52mm offset i believe.

What the heck is the difference between "thick" and "thin" Y2K rims? Do you mean polished and not polished?

I guess I'm the only person who ever liked the "sawblades" They are one of my favorite vette wheels. To me the GS wheels only look right on the GS. I do like the ZO6 wheels and I think they look great on a C4. Real ones, not cheap chrome knock offs.

1st choice, z06 rims
2nd choice, y2k thin spoke black.

Zelement had black y2k on his.

i vote for the real z06 wheels and or black grand sports. the only comment made on this post that has me scratching my head is the guy who said he liked GS wheels on GS cars but not other c4's...well i guess i could be a little different but don't wheels accent the lines of the car? that being said the only body difference between a 91-96 and GS is paint. i guess some people just like stock

The early Y2k are different, and the later are called "thin" spoke. I have looked at them in the mags and I can't see a difference.

Let me try to clarify a little. The Grand Sport wheels compliment the color scheme of the Grand Sport. The entire grand sport IMHO is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The wheels are really nothing special, and to me they just don't do it for me on anything but a real G.S. Also, there is a body difference, the GS had fender flares to accomidate the wider tires in the back. If you put true G.S. sized wheels on a C4 they will stick out a little on the back and look a little strange.

As for the Z06 wheels, well I just love them. I'll give it to the Z06 for it's out of the factory performance, but I've never liked the exterior styling of the C5 as much as the C4. I also absolutely hate the design of the FRC, so there's two strikes against the Z06. Exterior wise the only thing they have going for them to me is the wheels. As it just so happens that same wheel looks great on a C4. If I ever get the money to buy wheels it will be real Z06 wheels. But even that raises a small problem. They are great wheels but I've got the crappy brakes. So I'm not going to get those wheels to show off my crappy brakes, and I don't want to get the good Baer brakes and hide them behind my stock wheels. Oh well, brakes would make more sense to do first, but I would like to do them both.

IMHO the perfect vette styling would be a 95 ZR-1 engine and body (except I would put the 91-94 gills on it) with Z06 wheels, with a C5 instrument layout, with my 92 steering wheel. I would want to retain the C4 sports seats such as are out of my 92. Black interior. Just about any exterior color would be fine.

That's just me though. Probably more than you asked for anyway.

I dont have the money for Fiskes.. They are gorgeous though....

The difference between the thin and the thick are..... The thick ones are the Stock rims they C-5 came out with.... (which i dont really like... just a choice) and the thin... are the ones that Zelement put on his Steel Blue... but If i get those which Im leaning toward... Id need to upgrade my brakes like Nathan said.....

The Z06 rims are awsome too... I just dont know how great they would look on my car... If I get them.. they would be normal though... not chrome

Then at least name them right!

There is only one kind of "Y2K" rim, and those are the 'thin' ones that came out in 2000. The previous are just the ugly 97-99 rims commonly refered to as wagon wheels.

Actually there are 3 types of 5 spoke wheels for the C5

The 97-99 wheel:

The 2000 wheel:

And also the Magnesium wheel, which have thicker spokes:

Some people need to relax and YES there was actually 2 different Y2K wheels (not including the Magnesium). In early 2k they had wider spokes. The change came about mid year and was due to a supplier change. On the C5 forums the earlier/wider y2k wheels were highly sout after for a while.

BTW...my vote goes for black ugly 97-99 "wagon wheels"
