Power antenna problems

Hello,

I have a 1994 convertible. When I turn the radio off, the power antenna retracts leaving about four inches exposed. When I turn the radio on, the antenna goes up all the way. Can anyone tell me what is broken...why the antenna is not retracting all the way.

The nylon ribbon inside the antenna is broken.

See this site for a fix (they call it an "power antenna mast"):
