hummmmm, do the newer cars have bushings for the pilot shaft to seat into? that used to give me fits in the 60's when i put in a new motor or changed out the tranny  that's all i can think of, good luck!

Try having someone push in the clutch pedal when you insert the tranny into place. Should work for you.

Unless you are just talking about the OD unit by itself.

Thanks fellows, haven't tried the to push the clutch pedal yet. Yes it seems tobe not seating in the pilot bearing, have about a little more than a 1/4inch gap, then the movement stops....Will depressing the clutch make the install alot easier....

ok with about 1/4" left you are definitely through the clutch, and not aligned with the bearing. You have to make sure the tranny is perfectly level. I fought with my 4+3 for quite a while to get it back in. Did you replace the pilot bearing also? You are either JUST missing the pilot bearing, or the clutch is not aligned perfectly with it and pushing the clutch pedal in like lee suggested may help.

p.s.

Whatever you do, do NOT try to 'pull' it into the bearing buy putting the bolts in now and tightening it. It just won't work. Many a person have broken the mounting tabs off of the super T-10 by trying this. Not fun when you then have to take it out and go have the tab welded back on.

Thanks for the reply, I fought with this for about 6 hrs. After I recover from laying on the garage floor, I'm going to try the clutch method, if that fails, I start all over again.....

Do you have an extra input shaft laying around? That is what I ended up using to align the clutch properly.

Make sure that the transmission is in as far as you can get it when the clutch is depressed or you might have the clutch disc drop.
