Default Dizzy gear

Can anyone tell me is .500 the size of the hole in the distributor gear or the outside circumference of the gear itself my distributor won't drop all the way down I have turned the oil pump saft and still won't go. Think I need .491

This depends on the year & distributor
.441 - .500 is the OD of the distributor shaft.
Or the ID of the Distributor gear bore.
But irrelevant. You are just mis-aligning the slot on the oil pump shaft. Make sure piston 1 is TDC. Use a long screwdriver or similar aim the oil pump slot at the corner of the valve cover for piston # 1 now smoothly set the distributor in. 3 teeth back from your oil pump shaft. This will align and drop in. Very close to your firing position as well.

I have turned the oil pump shaft to many slightly different positions trying to get it I but it won't drop it was a brass dizzy gear I'm starting to think maybe the brass could be lodged in the cam gear stopping it. Just a thearoy

There is no guarantee with any part or manufacturer.
This theory is just shy of impossible.
I have witnessed a cam gear off by 2deg. Chews up your Diz gear.
But never the distributor gear. This is a perfected cut. I get 1.235 OD

No I was trying to say maybe some of the brass from the cissy gear could be stuck in the cam gear like if you drill aluminum with a drill bit it can sort of form to the groves in the drill bit don't know if that's possible but I have dropped the distributor into this car many times with no problems. Btw this is a zz4 block with a zz8 cam afr heads

Crank the engine and the distributor will drop into place when the oil pump slot lines up with the pin in the distributor gear. If it doesn't drop then you have a problem. If it does drop then you need to line up the oil pump shaft better.

I have a new problem. Now the car will start right up and drives great. But every now and then while at a red light she just dies. No codes. Does smell like it's running rich though. Any thoughts ?

Do a minimum idle adjustment:

Thank you in advance
