horn quit working
changed relay didn't help. horns work but not at the wheel. could this be a security sys problem? also the underhood light on the pass side keeps blowing. will last about 2 hr with the hood up. at a loss at where to start looking any ideas? thanks robert

Does the horn work when the lamp is dead? Could be symptoms of the same problem or two different problems.
Shorts are a bitch to find. Get a Helms manual and check out the schematics. Hope you are good with a multi-meter.

Dont let the direct 12v to the horns fool you. My horns were shorted, but direct 12v would still make them work. Find the horn fuse (behind DIC on my 86) and make sure the fuse isnt blown. Replace if necessary. Good luck.

on mine it was under the pass side dash. there are 3relays together, and 2 together, it is the middle relay of the group of 3. the horn worked off and on then about 3 weeks ago it just quit all to gether. i can pull the relay and jump it and the horn will blow. bought a new relay and still nothing. is there a second relay under the hood? may be a fuseable link in line somewhere? the fuse at the fuse box inside is fine. i have checked it and replaced it no joy. i don't believe it is the switch in the column i can't believe the horn to have been used enough to wear it out. i have a stste inspection at the end of the month so this has to be fixed. i will keep looking and post what i find. thanks for the help robert

As info the horn circuit(s) and mechanism for the 1990-1996 C-4 are different than the 1984-1989 C-4. For some info on common failures and repairs for the 1990-up, check the following links:

I had the opposite problem in that the horn went off any time I got close to the steering wheel. Turns out the puttons in the wheel had disentigrated. Probably could fail like mine did or could fail not working at all. Just takes a minute to pull the cover (four screws) and inspect them. About 10.00 from GM for the replacements. The originals were so blown up I used a shop vac to pick up the pieces.
