Default Advice Needed Please...

Gotta '90 vert with 124k miles on her. I've been driving her a lot the last couple of days since we have had some abnormally warm days (78-82). After the car gets warmed up, and its in in the afternoon, I've noticed a slight "surge" on and off at normal around town cruising speeds(35-45mph) I've read the FSM and I'm leaning toward new plugs and wires, does it sound like I'm heading in the right direction? The car does tend to backfire when shifting gears and it already has new air filter, fuel filter and alternater. Thanks

since the car has taken the winter off I would start off with a nice tank of fresh gas. just to take moisture out of the loop. check your cap a rotor

what you are describing also sounds a lot how my car was running just before the coil died.

put the gas in test out from there

I had a miss in my ''85 L98. It took $600 and a year to finally get EVERYTHING that was causing issues. New cap, rotor, wires, plugs. Rebuilt dizzy with new ICM, pick up coil and condensor. New ignition coil, new fuel pump, filters, and finally rebuilt injectors got rid of the last of it.

So, start diagnosing and hopefully yours isnt in as bad a shape as mine. Cant go wrong with a basic tune up.

Thanks for the replies.

Don't think it would be the gas, as I have been able to drive it a minimum of one day a week for the past 4 months and I've been using fuel stabilizer. It tends to idle a little high at stop lights until I tap the petal, but does better once at operating temp. I'm thinking I'll also check the TPS and O2 sensors, the throttle body has been cleaned.

I would check timing/clean aic out/tps and then minimum idle adjustment all the basics that won't cost you anything....I have to tap mine occasionally and have read threads from others that have to also....don't know what the hell causes it....and as always, check your fuel pressure....

Not sure you meant to post that to this thread but I assume you applied window perf to your Targa top. That's looks really good and easy to change if you get tired of it later. Just fyi, that stuff only has a life of about a year +/- a few months.

Mine did that until I adjusted the cruise control cable. Try disconnecting it and see if the problem goes away.
