Default DTC 41 Error Questions

Recently got my 86 Convertible L98 out of storage. Drove it briefly a couple of times and went to drive it this morning, it's 26 degrees out if it makes a difference.

It was running poorly, surging some and not idling correctly plus the SES light came on. Got it home and put the scanner on it and it showed a single error: DTC41. I had a SES the one day but after stopping and restarting (out doing some errands at the time but the engine ran fine), the SES was gone on restart.

Error DTC41 shows 1) Cam Sensor Failure 2) Cylinder select error 3) Electronic spark timing circuit open or shorted to ground or 4) Ignition System Fault- loss of 1x reference pulse signal.

Following the diagnostic tree it suggests on intermittents that it could be a poor or loose connection and that's my problem. I can't find reference to that Cam Sensor in the FSM so it's hard to check out. Same thing online, I find reference to that sensor but nothing showing what it looks like or where it's at.

Can anyone point me to where it is and what it looks like? If you've run into this before and it was something else, I'd appreciate that info to so I can get this found and fixed.

Thanks in advance.

Only #2 applies in your case. The others are for LT1 engines.

You get a DTC 41 if you have a bad ground connection. According the the FSM, D3 and D10 are the ECM pins that need to be grounded, but also check A12 and D1. The ECM connects to G104, which is located on the side of the block above the oil filter.

Appreciate the info, especially since later yesterday I ran it a little while and it ran just fine. Don't think if something was burnt out it would be intermittent.

May have solved it so passing it along if it helps anyone else. In my case, looks like it was a battery disconnect I had added to the car. Once I removed it the SES light quit appearing etc, so maybe it's solved.
