Re: SYNTHETICS (EricJ)
Nope Valvoline is only semi-synthetic. It failed in my truck in a year. I didn't understand it, and actually sent a sample to the labs to be tested (cost more then the stuff). Yup, shot. No wear yet, but the lubricant / fluid was done.
Bought RedLine, think that's also semi-synthetic. On advice from this board passed on installing RedLine PS. Standing offer for anybody who wants to pick it up from my front porch.
On advice from another board bought GM "Cold Climate" PS fluid. This is also a semi-synthetic. Will let you know, not in long enough yet.
Be careful when somebody tells you to run ATF in your PS. May have been true in the 60 / 70's, but not true now. Seals, requirements have changed and you need a PS fluid. Now if I could just find one.
I've had no issues with the Valvoline semi-synthetic P/S fluid. It stays clear, does not foam or boil and steering performance is good & consistent. It has worked for many hours of track time and looks the same as when we dumped it in 2 years ago.
