Default Custom chip?!?!?

O.K. , I know this subject is probably beat to death but I'm looking for a right answer. I have a 1988 L98 Automatic with 51,000 orig miles. I have magnaflow cat/back , open air cleaner lid and a shift kit , that's it. I would like to have my fans come on at around 200/210 instead of the usual 228. So I guess I'm looking for a chip that can help me with the fans and also squeeze any extra H.P. that might be lost in there? Not looking for a ton but just curious. Is what I'm looking for possible???!! Thanks in advance. I don't want to cause any damage to my engine either.

Do you have Facebook? If you do, message a guy named John Wayne. He would be able to adjust that for you if you asked him. I think he charges $65 per custom tune which also includes the chip.

You may as well ask him to do some other stuff while he's in there. He can activate highway mode for you and increase your timing for better throttle response and power.

I used to but don't anymore. Is there any other way to get in touch with him? I'm on instagram.

If you have the stock PROM still and it's NOT been tampered with DO NOT let anyone modify it. Leave it intact with the "silver" label undisturbed with the PROM ID.

I thought I had seen you ask this or a similar question recently. I didn't look but am I imagining things?

I may have asked a year or 2 ago but got lots of different answers that eventually went down a dead end path so I'm trying again lol. So what your saying is 1) leave it stock and don't touch it or 2) leave the stock chip untouched and have someone program a complete different one so I always have the stock one to fall back on? which was what I was planning on.

seems to me, you can swap out the temp sensor that controls the on-off temps of the fans. I'm thinking there is a factory lower temp part that comes on in lower temperature ranges....

here's a couple CC links -

Wrong fan. That temperature sensor is for the auxiliary fan.

The main fan is controlled by the ECM, which uses the temperature sensor on the front of the intake manifold.

- in the twenty years I've owned C4's, I've never had an issue with the fan-temp, so I've really never looked into the wiring/sensor/ECM thing. I thought the front block sensor controlled both fans. i guess this threw me off (from the CC link) -
The stock C4 Corvette cooling system runs inherently hot. GMP has the solution. We offer electric cooling fan switches in four different temperature ranges. The switches will turn on the main fan, auxiliary fan or both at a lower temperature.
sorry if I've injected any confusion here....

so, let me ask a question. if the main fan is controlled by the ECM, via front-intake mounted sensor, where is the AUX fan sensor? I know about the sensor in the RH cylinder head, but I thought that sensor provided a signal for the dash readout - ??? guess I've got to learn something new here today!

I believe Cliff is correct for at least one of the links you posted BUT.......

Any of the fans can be controlled by utilizing "switches" other than the configuration "as built". Cliff was commenting only on the OE configuration. ANY FANS - PRIMARY, AUX on early and the various stages of the later.

Various years had the AUX fan switch location moved around. A person actually needs to check location for their particular year/application and to also confirm that the OE configuration isn't already modified. Most C4's aren't with the original owner, many have changed hands multiple times and the more recent buyers don't even think to check.

If a person is happy with the run, MPG and performance of their car BUT still might want to do some fan control I believe switches would maybe be a better approach than letting Joe/John/Jim/Tom or Bill screw with the tune. If the OE PROM is untouched I'd leave it alone.

Here's a Chris Petris document regarding "switching possibilities". How effective are these methods? I have no idea. If a person had switches with very tight tolerances then I'm sure they would be great and as mentioned in the document BUT I'm sure the sourcing of the materials have changed.

http://tech.corvettecentral.com/2011...modifications/

Are there other wiring procedures to control fans? I've seen many different approaches.
