This post is in fact real and the car is running great with the carb. I took a break and haven't tuned it completely yet but I am happy with it. The gauges work great too.
FYI "this poor car" was rotted and was ready to be scrapped when I picked it up. All plastic and rubber bits were sun damaged and rotted, which was causing multiple issues. This is just a hobby and it will probably take me another year to get the car where I want it, but regardless it is better off than it was.
I'm not too familiar with the 84's, but on my 85 it seems that all relevant sensors were wired directly to the digital readout. Every other bit of wiring came out of the car including the ecm. I would imagine it is very similar with the 84.
mike --i apologize for my (poor car) reference. ididnt realize that you saved a would have been junker. the birds nest just kinda blew my mind. if i can help let me know. you wont get much help on the forum with this but go to thirdgen.org--forums --carburator. alot of guys do the conversion to their camaros and firebirds
Hey BTTB - It's cool, I have just taken a lot of flak that I think is undeserved. Maybe I'm a little sensitive haha. Things are going pretty well with it now and when I get a few more things buttoned up I will be posting some before and after pics to illustrate my point. Thanks for being on here and giving some constructive advice.
Torque converter lock up is done solely based on speed. Mine is set for 40 MPH (stock) and it will lock at 40 MPH no matter what gear the trans is in.
The TPS is used for many things, mainly LV8 (which is a measure of how much load the engine is under). Low speed with large TPS means heavy load, for example. If the MAF fails the ECM uses TPS to estimate air flow.
Negative. If that were true (the first paragraph), then the converter wouldn't unlock when you open the throttle at low speeds...but it DOES unlock. I agree that speed is A criteria that has to be met.
TPS is used mainly for enrichment during rapid throttle opening. MAP or MAF is the primary input for load. I agree the ECM turns to TPS when MAP/MAF fails....it has to; it has nothing else other than TPS, coolant and tach. Basic Alpha-N system.
