Need higher end speed
Hey guys, I'm looking to climb from 80mph a bit faster. I can get there real quick but my third gear sucks. I have 3.07s in the rear. Its an auto 89. I'm looking for fairly cheap mods...bolt ons. I don't want to add a cam or port anything yet. That may be next years project.

As long as you stick with TPI youll have trouble doing it on a 350.
get some headers, port some stuff, thats all you can really do
over 60mph the TPI doesnt flow enough air to feed the motor, that plus the gear ratio for 3rd doesnt help it
actually the 1-2 ratio dropoff isnt the best idea for performance either, but thats how a 700R4 is.

Either do headers or clean up the stock shorties and add a 2 1/2" mandrel-bent front Y, preferably headers.
Add 1.6RRs, with Ti retianers, etc and siamese the base.
Then raise your shift points into the mid-high 5k rpm range.
These mods will let you stay in 1st and 2nd longer as well as give more hp in 3rd.
Since you want more pull from 80mph, add the SLP ram air which becomes effective with speed. Of course you will likely need to bump fuel pressure here.
