Default head question:

I'm looking tack onto my L98 the mini ram, 52mm t/b, & HOTCAM. which head should I go with? my mods are in my signature. I'm looking for 425+ hp at the crank. I'm not going to do the bottom end(yet). Not looking to do N.O.S. or Supercharger either.

I was just wondering what the Forum Riders have...

PLEASE help(can't sleep)

If we assume a 15% drivetrain loss than you are basically looking at 360 at the wheels. This is obtainable on an LT1 with the hot cam, so I would assume it would be on an L98, mini ram combo.

LCVette did it on his home ported heads with his LT1. I hope to get it on my CNC ported LT1 heads. The thing is that us poor LT1 people don't have many aftermarket head choices. You should have plenty. Just do your reasearch on SBC heads and find some that flow really well and you'll be there. Remember peak flow numbers mean nothing. A head advertised at 350 CFM at .700 lift will do you NO good with the Hot Cam which only reaches .525 lift. See if you can find flow numbers across the board and see what gives you the most area under the curve for the usuable area of your cam.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I just don't know what all the L98 options are.

I would look at some AFR 190 heads, and a ZZ-9 or ZZ-9X cam or a cam with similar specs.

TFS, and Brodix 1 are also good heads.

he has an 88, so he does have D-ports, unported theyll flow enough for 350hp, ported should be a little over 400

The GM Fastburn heads use a raised intake runner design and are not compatible with standard intake. You would need to use a Vortec style intake, or I believe TPIS has a mini ram that will work with the fast burn heads. One thing you should consider is intake port volume, which should probably be in the 190-195 cc range to maintain flow velocity due to the rpm range of a street motor. As mentioned, AFR and TFS make very good flowing heads in this size.

For myself this is a perfect combo, (along with headers, 1.6 RR, .030 bore, etc) fits with only a few alterations, and I'm sure when you couple them with a miniram, and 52mm TB it should be kickin'.

thanks riders,
It looks like I will go with the 195's(just incase I do deside to use a supercharger in the future). Miniram, 52mm t/b, and hotcam. going to step up to the 24# injectors(new timing chain, water pump, etc... I wouldn't want to have to re-open the motor once it's done).

Going to do dyno for aftermath.

thanks
