Default Throttle Body

Hey everyone, finally got the 92 into the local vette shop for possible opti-spark replacement. They aren't able to work on it for a few weeks so I've been browsing for a few add-on parts while it sits. I picked up CAGS eliminator(plug kit) and an under drive pulley kit, now I'm trying to decide if I want a bigger throttle body on it. It's a stock LT1 coupled to a 6 speed with about 70,000 miles on it. How much of a bigger throttle body would help me without going overboard or having to tune the chip? Can't wait to get this thing on the road!

You are not going to gain much of anything by adding a larger TB. Only so much air can be used by a stock motor. Mostly a waste of money for you right now. Once you get into more serious mods like heads, cam, headers I would hold off.

That being said, I did get a 52mm TB. It was a stocker that was rebuilt and honed from the 48mm to the 52mm. I mainly did it because my bushings on the TB blade were worn and binding, the larger size wasnt the main deal. If I get some long tube headers it may help some, who knows.

Good luck!

The stock TB will handle more airflow that the stock engine needs. Even mildly modded engines don't need a bigger TB.

I would suggest a good aftermarket exhaust like systems from Corsa, Magnaflow, or Borla. Long tube headers will add some power but if you are required to have the car smog tested, check the state laws. You may have to keep cats on the car.

A good tune will help to add more power. Lots of information in the C4 Scan and Tune section about custom tuning.

With the Opti being replaced, it's a good time to replace plug wires and spark plugs if it's not already on the list to do.

Your stock TB is good for 400 HP and your LT is only 300. Waste of money for a stock LT1.

You do not need to re-tune until you change out the cam. 99% of the bolt on parts you can add can be handled with the stock tune.

Thanks for the replies! OK, so the throttle body is out. I know the exhaust isn't stock but the shop is gonna go over everything to see to what extent(I think the seller said something about about an x-pipe). I was thinking about headers down the line, maybe when winter comes again. Plugs and wires look original so they will be replaced. I thought about a tune and read some on it but not yet sure how to do it or whether I want to farm that out or not but sounds like I don't really need it at this time anyways. I would probably wait for a rebuild to change out the cam but I won't count that out yet. I'm hoping the under drive pulleys will add about 10hp. Haven't owned anything this fast since my 68 Camaro 20 years ago so I'm pumped. Any other suggestions for easy external horsepower gains whether it be big or small?

Would an air filter like this be worth it?
