anyone running 411s----any problem installing them in an 86---ive heard something about having to change the carrier for anything more than 373s. d-44
If you have a Corvette D44-HD you can install any "intentioned" gear package for it without the change of the carrier. You need to watch the brand and application of all available gear sets. A conventional D44 gear kit can be installed in the Corvette BUT you need to use specialty bearings, weld a sleeve and the pinion won't be as stout as the D44-HD. The lesser D44 is 26 spline and quite small in comparison to the D44-HD which is 29 spline and as stout dimensionally as the D60 and as a matter of fact the front bearing is identical as well as the pinion flange.
You'll find correcct D44-HD in 4.10 ratio and generally the earlier D44 product in 4.11 ratio.

It's most frequently mentioned as D44-HD or 'Vette/Viper if you're shopping. If you see D44 mentioned you need to be careful and confirm everything. D44 IRS for Corvette is challenging because the later C3's were a D44 also.

It's either a 26 spline pinion flange or it's a 29 spline pinion flange.
What size is the pinion nut? 1 9/32 for D44-HD often mentioned as 1 5/16, 1 1/8 for the D44 which is the same as the D36.
You keep mentioning unusual ratios for thhe C4. The builds are generally accepted as and available as 3.07, 3.33, 3.45 & 3.54 from OE/GM.
The after-market was generally consistent 3.54 and NOT 3.55, 3.73, 3.91 & 4.10. There were 4.56 builds also maybe with the correct pinion but most were welded sleeve D44's as were the majority of the 4.11 builds.
