I replaced the oil pan gasket myself. It's doable in your garage and on your back/creeper. But having the car on a lift would make the job much easier. Even on a lift its going to take time. If the mechanic has done a C4 before he'll know the tricks. If not.. he'll spend an extra hour figuring them out.
Before I did it myself I had both jobs you mention quoted. They (no direct experience w/C4s) quoted me 2.5 hrs labor for each. (oil pan gasket & intake manifold gaskets).
Oh.. and 230F is normal. Just make sure your cap is good, your water to coolant ratio is right, and the system holds pressure.
The cap is new. The water to coolant ratio is good and it holds pressure. My understanding is the more it runs at 230 it can damaged the heads. I already replaced the heads at the end of 2012 cant afford to do it again.
No problem with the cats or muffler ect, however now I find out I have a leak coming from the oil pan thats just the cherry on the cake of my day.
let's start with the least of your problems. These one piece neoprene or whatever pan gaskets are very robust...not at all like the old multi piece cork gaskets from back in the day, it's one thing chevy did right back in the mid eighties; before even considering pulling the pan to replace the gasket, any mechanic worth his (or her) salt is gonna go aound the perimeter of the pan and tighten each pan bolt a turn or so; then after everythings clean down there it can go back up on the lift and be inspected for a gasket leak
I really dont even know where to start. So lets start here I have this ticking noise each time I push down on the gas pedal and you can hear it when its idling as well just not as loud. So after a lot of research I thought perhaps it was an exhaust manifold leak.
My mechanic told me take it to a muffler shop and they will be able to tell you right away. Ok so off I go.

So he puts on his ears an actual stethoscope and says I hear it and he let me listen as well. He said its a bad intake manifold gasket.
So here I am with a loud noise thats getting louder each time I push on the gas (sounds like my 1967 Camaro when I had a hole in the muffler) a car that has valve bolts leaking and running hotter than I like.
I haven't personally heard of an intake manifold leak causing the symptoms you describe; usually they manifest themselves as an elevated idle, driveability issues and maybe even the old "whistling sound", but not the symptoms you describe.
An exhaust manifold leak, if its the gasket between the head and the exhaust manifold usually manifest themselves something like this, at first a mild little ticking at startup which disappears as the engine warms up, but continues to get worse over time, still tending to diminish as the engine warms up, until it becomes so bad that it's apparent where its from.
I know you don't want to work on your car at an apartment...but still, go to Harbor Freight, or any discount auto parts and buy a stethroscope...they're cheap, and when you start the car up when it's still cold, go around and listen to each exhaust manifold to head gasket...if you look carefully there may even be black carbon/soot tracking in the vicinity of the leak.
