Default Oil Leak

I'm the new owner of a C4 added to my collection of C6. My question today I see a minor oil leak under the car. I have been uable to get under there where I can really see. What is the normal issue when it comes to oil leaks. This is a 96 LT1 with 46000 miles on it. Any direction as to where to look when I get under there will help me greatly.

Most likely look towards the top rear of the engine area, it may be the GMS sealant on the front and rear edges of the intake manifold to engine block. Pretty common issue.

My advice...get under there and clean as much as you can. Then add some dye to the oil. Drive it for a while then put it in the garage and when it's nice and dark get under there again with a uv light. You'll be able to track the leak down. Valve covers are a likely candidate.

Default Oil Leak

I have an 1989 Chevrolet 5.7 TBI with 251000. My issues with are main crank on front side, and rear main seal on rear with oil coolant gasket leak. I didn't know if the 1996 LT1 may have had any different issue's. Sometime it would leak around the oil sending unit. Being unfamiliar with this engine I was fishing for any detail that may help.

Thanks for the help.

My 1996 LT4's oil leak is at the front of the engine. I have tracked it down to the sensor that has a seal on it that I need to change. This sensor is the crankshaft position sensor that is mounted into the engine timing cover. I have the new o ring type seal to install on the sensor. I have not replaced the O ring seal because the leak is very minor and the location does not seem like it is going to be easy even if it just one bolt removal.

FWIW my 89 w/86K had such a bad leak blue smoke would boil out from underneath at stop lights, either the pan gasket or rear seal from what I could tell.

VERY hesitantly I installed 3/4 qt of Lucas Oil Stop Leak and made a 275 mile trip. The leak has stopped or at least slowed to a point where it's not noticeable. I've since changed oil and still no return of the smoke.

Just throwing it out there, I know most people cringe at the thought of Stop Leak, as I once did.

As other have said the LT1-LT4 intake is very prone to leaking at the front and rear. Good thing is its a very easy fix
