I have a '84 Z51 that I am prepping for autocross and my mechanic told me recently that my intermediate steering shaft is worn.
Can a later model steering shaft be modified for a '84?
Does anyone sell an upgrade for this part that is hard to find? I'd love to be able to have this corrected since I want to autocross the car.
Thanks in advance.
One of the resellers does a "reconditioned" one for the '84. If this were a dedicated track car there's likely multiple options. With the shaft "in hand" the options become rather obvious.
An eBay search for GM 7843500 will get you an image that shows how it's constructed. I don't believe the later ones indexed correctly and the coupling at the column base was different. It's been a long time.

Use the same GM # at Corvette Central
Thanks for the info... I think I'll go with the reconditioned unit from Corvette Central.
