Default Installed - Wind Deflectors on Mirrors

Wow...these make a BIG difference! I saw them on We Gone's ZR1 and asked him about them. He told me they help deflect the wind off of your face while the windows are down. I rode with both windows down about 60 mph and didn't get the wind feeling on my face!

David Fulcher installed them with screws instead of the rivets in case of necessary removal during cleaning or waxing. David's the best damn mechanic in the southeast! Maybe the world! :D

I put them on my '85 and really liked them. I will put them on the '90 someday!

I've also been thinking about these. I guess the stick tape that comes with these is the least "invasive" but I wonder how long that lasts. If you choose the rivets, do you need a pop-rivet gizmo? Since you used screws, what do the screws go into?

I kinda wondered why GM never put them on at the factory. It sure does its job.

Actually my moms '87 has wind deflectors that came stock from the factory. I think that only early '87s got them.

I just had a set of them riveted on my '94 when I had it in for some bodywork and they work great! I was cruising at 90mph, top off and windows down and my passenger at the time had no idea. :reddevil

Just drill smaller holes than the width of the screw. I have black screws holding them now.

Sharky: They did install them from the factory on convert's and early-mid 87's. My 87 has them and I love them. We installed a spare set of mirrors I had from another 87 onto my folks 88, it had them on those as well, they like them alot also.

Could someone post a quality picture of how they look on the car. I was thinking it would be a great addition, but don't want to ruin any looks of the car.

Thanks.

I assume the mirror housing that you are drilling the holes into are also fiberglass? If so, I would think the holes could "wear" over time due to wind, vibration, etc. I envision a real primo way of installing these would be to have screws that passed through holes in the mirror housing and into some backing strip that had pre-tapped threaded holes to accept the screws. Sorry, I guess it's just my structural engineering background but I am wary of relying on screws directly into fiberglass or plastic.

all '87 coupes had them I think.... and all verts throughout the years I think.... I'm sure someone has the 'exact' info.
