Something in my drivetrain broke today, and I hope you guys have some suggestions. I was on the gas pretty hard, hit about 45 mph when suddenly my engine kept reving up, but I wasn't going anywhere. I pulled over to the side of the road, and then tried to get going again. I would rev the engine up, and the car would accelerate ever so slowly. It is a 700R4 tranny, built for my application. If the car was a manual, I would swear the clutch was gone from the way it feels.
I'm sure it has something to do with the tranny. I tried it in all gears, including reverse, and got the same results. Super slow acceleration. The engine is behaving normally, and I assume the rear end is fine, because I can still move. Is there something in the transmission that would cause this kind of problem? Is there any type of connection that could have came loose that would do this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have to agree with the other posters. You did the transmission in. One thing to look for in this particular transmission is the last drive gear being split. GM does a ****-poor job of heat treating some of their gears. I'm not transmission smart, but a local rebuilder I know showed me several of these gears and he says they split under hard acceleration. The first thing I would do is have someone check it out before going for the complete rebuild. Just a thought that might save you $600-700.
