Who's done this? I am looking to do this for daily driving and racing. I need a new waterpump before I put the motor in, the old one has ~155k miles on it...
I would prefer electric to help clean the engine bay up, no A/C, no Smog pump, taking the waterpump pulley out of the loop would just make it sweeter still. Would it be feasible to swap to V-Belt instead of serp? Oh yeah, I plan ongetting a custom bracket made for the alternator to clean that up.
Anyways... What products can you people recomend for me? What other stuff do I need to know? Any other parts I need to buy? Anything other then running the electrical cables involved? Install like a normal water pump? Etc, etc...
I did this on my 86 for autocrossing. I went with a remote located CSI waterpump and plumbed hoses to the front of the motor. I also deleted the air pump and AC just leaving the crank, the power steering pump, the altenator annd the tensioner. Just kinda fabbed the mounts for the altenator and tensioner with a couple of turnbuckles from Lowes. If you are interested I have some pics I can e-mail you
Put a Meziere pump on my 90 Callaway by eliminating the air pump and diverter valves, the serp belt goes directly from the altenator to the air conditioner pully. Have driven it on a 4000 mile trip and had no problems.
