Default re-attach loose shift indicator assembly?

Hey. I've done a lot of searching and found some helpful thoughts, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a good look at how the shift indicator assembly (lens and back plate kind of thing) is held in place. Mine (95 coupe) has come loose -- I assume the screws have just rattled out -- and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me...

1) what size, type of screws they are
2) do you think I could re-fasten the thing without removing the entire console (i.e., just take it apart enough that I can lift it up and get my hand in there)?

cheers, thanks., etc., etc.

I don't know if there is difference between auto and manual...... but my auto was a simple fix. Just remove a few screws for access to the shifter assembly.

Yeah - mine's an auto. You had enough room to replace the screws that attach the indicator assembly (the PRNDL thingie) without removing the console altogether?

Yeah.....no need to remove console. Shift position indicator not secured by screws.

I'm okay with the little orange needle that shows which gear you're in. My problem is the plastic lens with the PRNDL on it has come loose and is falling down into the shifter area.

I think you will have to remove the shifter plate for access to the 'thingie':

Yeah - looks like it. Guess I'll just start taking things apart and see how far I have to go to get at the thingie.

Thanks.

here's a pic of the underside of the console. the (silver finished) bulb bracket is held in by two (2) torx head self tapping screws. that bulb bracket holds captive the shifter lens, and the lens blackout plate. the shifter needle slides within the lens and the bracket.

you may be able to lift the console bezel enough to access the screws, but remember, you'll still need to get the proper tool in there to secure the assembly. it may just be easier to remove the console bezel assembly.

Hey Joe - that is incredibly helpful (together with the info you sent in your PM yesterday).

I'll have to see if I can wangle a stubby in there to replace the screws. Thanks again!

Thanks to all, esp. Joe, for the advice.

I was able to re-attach the indicator assembly in about 20 minutes this afternoon...the usual remove the console lid, take out the screws under the console carpet, the screw under the ashtray, and after pulling the shift back into 1st gear position, I could lift the bezel (I think it's the bezel?) up enough to use a stubby screwdriver to fix the assembly back in place. Most time-consuming part of the job was finding the right size of screw -- this one's too long; this one's too short; this one's too skinny; this one's too fat....but this one---this one is just right.
