Hey guys, I found this targa top through a friend of a friend. It was found in an attic still in the box after my friend's friend bought the house and started remodeling. The sticker on the box shows it was a GM purchase and shipped to a local Chevy dealership in 1994. I am going to drive and look at it tomorrow, but wanted to see what you guys think of the few things below:
1. Is this really GM, if so is it better than aftermarket?
2. What are the two marks in the picture #3, sun gazzing?
3. Whats a good price?
This guy had it on eBay for like 1200 so I placed a best offer of 600. After a phone call and telling him id pay cash and he would save eBay fees and shipping, he said he meet at 800... I really don't want to pay that. Was gonna see what I can negotiate in person tomorrow, I mean this guy found this in his attic so it was free to him.

I think I paid too much! I tried to take a photo but I can't get a better one that whats already posted. I tried cleaning it with Meguiars' Plastx but that actually made matters worse, I now have a haze from the stuff and the two marks are still there. When you look from the inside you can't see the marks, you can only see them from the outside, but there is no scratch or coarseness outside where the marks are.
700, happy? Now you going to help with how to fix the top?
Was saying you would not tell not holding you hostage But if is not scuffed it is more than likely crazed from be in the attic. Some say that polishing will make it worse. From what I can tell from here is that you live with it,paint it or put vinyl on it.
I have cleaned waxed and buffed my tops just like the car never had any issues with dulling 100's of times over the last 13 years. Try a supper fine polish watered down to get the haze out or with a non-cleaner wax. Remember its plastic and the surface is not as hard as your paint so don't rub to hard. Also and most important only use a clean foam pad 100% cotton or micro-fiber cloth. The marks could also be in the clear coat.

Damn, that sucks. I was hoping this would buff out. I ordered some plexus, hopefully it helps a little.

If in the clear coat can it be fixed? Hard to tell from here

I think it is in the clear coat since you can't even see or touch it from the inside, and on the outside you can't feel anything you can only see it.
I'm going to try the Plexus cleaner first. Then I don't know what i am going to do.
1. Maybe try the Meguiars PlastX again but use a orbital buffer afterwards?
2. I've heard of using the clay bar on the top?
3. Should I use sand paper and remove all the clear coat? I'd hate to do that cause the top looks brand new other than this.
4. Just clean it with Plexus and live with it this summer, maybe the clear coat will have issues from the sun this summer and I will do step 3 over the winter cause it actually needs it.
