since i have been trying to get the dowel pin out of the end of my old cam and so far been unsuccessful - see this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=365785
i was wondering what i would have to buy to do a cam swap. I looked at lingenfelter.com and they have a number of lt1 cams for about $315 on this page: http://www.lingenfelter.com/lingenfe...24&pf%5Fid=489...what else would i have to buy? how hard is a swap? what kind of power would i get with stock heads and injectors?
thanks guys!! hopefully i will just get the pin out so i can put the car back together...
Well the way I see it you can buy a lingenfelter cam that may or may not work well with stock heads and you can pay $315 for it.
For a little bit more you can by the Hot Cam kit which comes with the Hot Cam ($180) along with new springs and 1.6 RR's. On my car the hot cam kit and an electric water pump made 44 hp over stock. If you count the water pump as 7 to the wheels you are still looking at like 37 hp increase over stock. It will be fully emissions legal as well. It's a very well proven performer.
In any event you will have to pull the rocker arms so you can get the pushrods out, then you will have to remove the intake so you can remove the lifters.
Honestly sine you'll have to have it that far apart it wouldn't be THAT much trouble to just go ahead and install the 1.6RR's The hardest thing would be changing the springs.
BTW, I feel your pain. I had to replace my hot cam with another hot cam when I went to extend that dowell pin. Even with the cam out of the car I couldn't drive the pin any further.
Any further questions just let me know. It would be cool to have another Polo Hot Cam car :)
Tne last thing. To get the cam acutally out of the car you will have to remove the torque arm and loosen the driveshaft so the motor can tilt back a few degrees.
I'll have to call and get a price...still hope I can just pull that stupid pin out :smash: i want cam setup but not until probably next winter if possible!!
I was able to get my cam out of the car, and with a punch from the other side couldn't drive the pin back out. What sucks is that I had to tap the pin in a little when I first installed it so it would work with my OLD opti. 3 extrememly light taps drove it into place, I couldn't make it go back out with a sledge. I think it's something about after it heat cycles it tends to fuse it in there.
no cam yet...after 3 hours yesterday trying to get that dowel pin out of the old cam, i spent 10 more minutes and got it out!!! :D the car is almost re-assembled now...cam will have to wait until next winter!!!
