Default Update on Heads

I took the heads to my favorite machine shop today (long Drive 100 miles) The machinist looked at the heads and the drivers side head gasket gave way between the cylinder and water jacket on #7 and #1 where the distance between the water jackets and cylinders are closer together. He said it may have gotten too hot. He is going to resurface the heads and install valve seals. He found a remanufacturers plate on the side and said the valves appeared to look good and it had not been too long since they were rebuilt. He was going to test them for cracks before he did anything else but he said they looked good. It is a car qwest store that has been around for many years and a good machine shop I have used before in the 70's. They will furnish me with a set of head bolts and a head gasket set including everything I will need above the block. I have to clean off the pistons and look the cylinders over better.

Long drive, but worth it if the shop is good. They will pressure test the heads for cracks. The good thing about aluminum heads is that they can be welded whereas cast iron....become paper weights.

If they were rebuilt recently, your probably in good shape.

Best of luck.

John I have been looking for an intake manifold since the one we have had a broken off corner on the last manifold bolt hole on the drivers side. A member here name of Rocky has one and I contacted him this morning and told him I was ready for it as he was going to check on shipping charges.
I believe we had a little devine intervention tonight. Rocky told me to call him. He lives in Florida and I am in Oregon. When I called him he told me he could not believe what he saw. I live 20 miles from Florence Oregon on the beautiful oregon coast and He is flying out here this weekend to go to a family high school graduation. He told me if I wanted it he would hand carry it on the air plane and meet me in Florence. My son also lives in Florence. This is another daily miracle I experience occasionally. Now I know we can do it. Thanks to God and Rocky.

You can't ask for a better delivery service from Florida.

I have been trying to tie two projects together There are no good or capable machine shops for 50 miles north or south of me so everyone here on the coast depends on machine shops in the valley in Eugene, Roseburg area. I went to one in Albany because I have had them do work for me in the past way back to the 70's. I have another project I have purchased an old 94 Ford F-350 diesel IDI truck which may need a transmission and has issues with fuel injection so I took it to Eugene yesterday and dropped it off at Oregon Fuel Injection in Eugene and left it there my wife followed me and we took the heads off the corvette to Albany, Hopefully they will both be done at the same time this week and I can tie the two together in one trip again. Been kind of Hechtic around here I should be fishing we have pink fin perch in the river now.
