Default Head gaskets - LT4 (dealer or ?)

I found out that the dealer shows a different part number for the LT4. Should I go with the LT4 GM gaskets or local auto parts brand?

I putting mine back together with the LT1 Impala head gaskets. I decided on that after talking with several people on the LT1edit mail group.

Just FYI

I believe the question is about head gaskets not intake manifold gaskets. P/N 12367777 is the intake manifold gasket.

I understand the LT1 head gasket is approximately .010" thinner than the stock LT4 head gaskets. This increases the compression and combustion chamber squish/turbulance. However, I am not sure it this is a good thing for the already high LT4 compression. Anybody do this?

"GM has 2 different sets of intake gaskets for the LT4, the stock ones (P/N 12528884) and the "Performance Parts" ones (P/N 12367777). The ones with the larger ports are the GM Performance Parts gaskets. I got mine from Jeff Kopp for something like $14.69 each, you'll need two. I used Felpro for most of the other gaskets, but GMPP for the intake."
He said head gasket, you're saying intake gaskets.

Is the brand of HEAD gaskets important? Should I go with GM or the NAPA?

BTW, I do have the better intake manifold gaskets. :D

I would go with fel-pro.. they seem to be the strongest (and most expensive) of the gasket brands.. Just make sure you get the right set.. I was sold a set of Chevy Small Block Fel-Pros.. not right..

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the thickness is:
.049 GM F & Y bodies (aluminum head)
.029 Impalla (non-aluminum head)
.039 Felpro part# 1047

I'm going with felpro :D

Do you recall if Felpro gaskets are the same for LT1/4? Autozone list one Felpro but NAPA (their own brand) list two for 1996. I trust you guys more than some Autozone counter help.
