What is the largest 17" wheel that will fit all the way around a 1994 C4 without modifications?? I'm wanting to replace my wheels for rotation purposes but want them no narrower than they are now.
So my question is 17 x ?? Wheel & what size tire??
The C4's that had the optional Z07 performance suspension package got 17x9.5 wheels and 275/40-17 tires on all 4 corners. The 9.5" wheel can also handle the 285/40-17 tire with no issues.
The '96 Grand Sport coupe used a 17x11 rear wheel with a 50mm offset and a 315/35-17 tire. That wheel may fit in the front, but there could be some rubbing issues with the 315 tires in the front.
I think the 17x9.5" wheel and the 275/40 tire would be the best bet. The 275 tire is still widely available. OEM 17x9.5 wheels can be easily found too (you should have two of them at the rear of your '94
That's what I think too. I already have a less than abundant color, I don't want my wheels like everyone else....yet every time I pose the question to people, the torque thrust are chosen more often. I've been stuck on #1 from day 1 myself
I'd buy a used set of CCW classics or any Fikse rims. 17x9.5 and 17x11
I don't think you would find a used set of Fikse's but the beauty of them is that they made a custom offset that would tuck the 17x11 in the rear with a 335-35-17 on it it would not rub nor would it stick out like the GS OEM rims.
These are 17x11 in the rear but now are only carrying 315-35-17s although I have run the 335 on the rear.
I'll vote for the second set. Torque Thrust 2's are one of the nicest rims I've seen on c4's especially LT cars. There's a reason a lot of people have them
Most everyone seems to have overlooked the OP mentioning "rotation" in his post. Not all but MOST.
CRAY does some 17's and some 18's that do C4's very well and they "FIT". They're only done in 9" but it's sufficient for most anyone's needs. Those that like to mention staggers I expect it's easier to spend someone else's money when making suggestions.
A plus I believe with the CRAY is that they'll be around I would think for the foreseeable future. Quality seems to be very good.
I don't own them and I couldn't use their sizing/options but if I had a '91+ base C4 I'd consider them for sure. I'd also maybe consider a second pair of the OE's in 9.5 and run them X 4.
The 275 tire will do well on the 9" Cray offerings also if you elected to stay with the 17's

What is the custom offset value that works for the 17" x 11"?
Now you are asking me to exercise my memory back nearly 17 years. But given the GS has a 17x11 with 50 mm offset and the ZR1 has a 36 mm offset on their 17x11. I have had the GS 17x11s on my 94 Coupe and they stuck out about a 1/4 inch (which is why the GS narrow body had the eyebrow.) Since these fit under a narrow body perfectly well, I am going to estimate that they are 56 mm.
I bought them from the Fikse's directly in 2000 at the same time I bought a set of FM 10s for my early delivery 01 Z06 and rather than me shopping for a particular size Matt simply told me he could make a set of 17x11s that would tuck under my narrow body C4. And he was right.
However if 4 wheel rotation is a factor the 17x9.5s all around is hard to beat. And both the standard 275 as well as the 285-17s will fit perfectly well and be a lot easier to get than the 315 or 335 rears. It is just that the bigger rear tires look so good.

I would definitely like to know what wheels youre using, and if I could fit them on an 84 without spacers or modifications. Cheers!
No the 84 has much different offsets than the later C4s. But any high end wheel manufacturer can make a set that will tuck under your body for you. But high end means high cost, so you need to factor that in.
FWIW, these are 17x11 A Molds with 315s all around on my 96, which is substantially lower than stock with no altered body work:
If your ride height is closer to stock, you can possibly get away with more than this. But these don't rub at all. Offset becomes really important when you push these limits. I also run a set of CCWs in 17x11 that work fine.

And I think the A Molds are very good looking on Vette for the value. But if you want to buy nice wheels that are cost @ half of the value of C4's then go with new CCW Classics or you may be able to find a used set.
I should have specified that these are A Mold replicas, not the originals. I think they are probably the AFS version*, but I confess to not having looked that closely. Yeah, the A Molds are hard to beat in all aspects except for weight, and for under $700/set they are a hell of a deal. They are attention-getters on my car. FWIW, the CCWs I have were bought by the previous owner many years ago, when they weren't quite as expensive as they are now. There are certainly other wheels to check out, too.
*Note that the link shows a set with OE Grand Sport staggered sizing, but I am running the 17x11 rears with 50mm offset at all four corners.

It just occurred to me that I left one thing out: 17" tires are fading away, and choices in performance tires are becoming limited. If you're buying new wheels and tires anyway, you may want to consider 18s, which will not change your fitment issue as long as "+1" the tire aspect ratio. It's a bit of future-proofing to consider. This may be more of an issue for competition tires than street tires, though. So the main point is to check out the size options in the types of tires you'd be considering.

Awesome picture. Not many pictures show the all the great body lines of the C4 like this one. Beautiful car !
