Default 95 PKE troubles

Ok all knowing Corvette Forum, here is my problem...

A few months back my keyless entry started acting up. The car will unlock, lock, beep, unlock, lock, beep, etc. constantly when the fob is in range. I can leave my keys on the roof and watch the car do this indefinitely. The fob doesn't need to be moving. The only way to make it stop is to either 1)quickly open a door the second it unlocks before it locks again, or 2) take the fob out of range.

Steps I've taken to try to correct the problem:
1) I replace the fob battery. No change.
2) Tried both sides of the car thinking maybe an antenna issue in the door. No change.
3) I purchased a brand new fob and programmed it to the car. New fob acts exactly as the old one does. $130 down the drain.

Unless someone has any ideas I think the next plan of action is changing out the PKE box in the car? If so, how do I get to it? Do they still sell it? Please don't tell me I have to pull apart the whole dash.

Before we all start throwing thoughts and ideas out can you give us some background on your car?

1. Coupe or convertible?
2. Stock or aftermarket stereo?
3. Interior modifications?
4. Was there any maintenance or modifications done to the car before the PKE started acting this way?
5. Previous to this incident, did the PKE work as designed?
6. Have you taken apart the door panels?

1. Convertible
2. Aftermarket. Was changed out like 8 years ago.
3. None other than the stereo.
4. Nope. It was working fine for many years. One day out of the blue last November it stopped working all together. After running the diagnostic I figured out it saw the fob but claimed it wasn't programmed to the car. How it lost it's program I don't know. Reprogrammed it and it was working fine for months. All of a sudden now this problem came up.
5. Worked perfectly for years.
6. Not recently. Many years ago to fix the cracked ribs on the panels.

Here is a video to see what I'm dealing with.....

I don't have my FSM to get the troubleshooting guide for you. Left it at work. It does sound like the PKE module is bad though. Are you able to shift the system off?

I'm not really sure which thread you were referring to. I saw a PKE thread with someones passenger door not unlocking?

Yep, it registers button presses of the fob to turn it off/on and switch the settings.

It looks like the module isn't even available new anymore. I don't know if it's going to be more of a headache to go aftermarket keyless or deal with more 20 year old used electronics.

If mine ever decides to quit I will either just shut it off and use the key or wire in an aftermarket device.

You said you have replaced the fob battery but have you tried disconnecting the car battery to see if you can get something electronic to reset? Just a thought on something to try. Jay

If the door switches were intermittent then the alarm would sound after it armed and saw the door switch open again. It would not continuously arm and disarm.

It appears that the PKE system is cycling as if the fob were moving in and out of range. That leads me to believe that the antenna array is going bad or the PKE module itself is bad.

Probably the module is bad. Switches should be something free to check. If they were constantly switching between open and closed i think that might do it. Antennas shouldn't be in play since the fob sjouldn't xmit if not moving.

The FOB doesn't have to be in motion to transmit. It has to be in motion to wake up. It continues to transmit for a period of time after it wakes up and then goes dormant again until the pellet in the core is moved.

Yes the door switches are a cheap check. However, the system would not continuously lock then unlock due to a intermittent door switch. Once armed and a door opens the system will sound the alarm. I tried this yesterday on my system.

Checked the door switches and they were fine. Disconnected the battery for a while and no change. Bit the bullet and started tearing apart the dash to get to this stupid thing. I was hoping to see something obvious that was burnt/bulging/burst/leaking that I could fix myself but no such luck. I don't see anything that failed with any visual signs.
