My rear right brake has been groaning like cheap horse for over a week now.
It looks like the rotor is shuddering, and it only does it when i turn. Ive taken the stupid brake apart 5 times now and everything looks ok. I cleaned it all greased what needed to be greased, and it still does it. Some how the rotor must not be straight, does it have to go on a certain way? I did change the wheel bearing on that wheel recently, and it looks to be in right.
The pads still look in good shape. It started doing it about a week after i put the wheel bearing in, i suspect something isnt right, though i dont know what it could be. The bearing is seated properly and bolted down.
I think im going to take it all apart on sunday and re do it.
You need to make sure that the mating surfaces on the flange are clean and free of any dirt. Likewise, the pads should be free to move freely as the brakes are applied. Perhaps, they are binding for some reason. If they did not groan before, something simple is wrong. SO I doubt that the rotor is warped enough to cause this.
so get this..you know the bracket that bolts to the rear knuckle? The one the caliper bolts to? Its got those 2 bolts on it. Well for whatever reason the bottom bolt is too long now and it was grinding on the rotor, and pushing it sideways. I put a small washer on the bolt to shim it so it wouldnt grind on the rotor, took it for a spin, seems nice and quiet now. No grinding, no graoning.
The bearing looks good its seated properly. I dont get why the bolt doesnt fit now. Whatever it works im not going to worry about it anymore.
