I've just got an '85 vette, and the hatch makes a loud thud from the passengers side when going over R/R tracks or harsh bumps on the highway(Michigan roads suck!). Is this common? The struts seem to be strong, when the hatch button is pressed hatch pops up and continues to completely open. The seal seems to look good, and it doesn't leak water. Is there any adjustment on the latch or anything I might look for? Thanks.
Yeah. I've got r/r crossing 1/2 mile from my house, and I've gone over it several times. It seems like the hatch is actually going up, away from the seal, a little bit. Every time I've seen this, Ive also heard the loud thud. It almost is as loud as shutting the hatch! I've removed the jack, as well as spare, and checked all exhaust hangers and clearance. The hatch is so far my only idea.
I know what your talking about it's a kinda loud knocking sound when going over bumps or sometimes around a corner. My 87 coupe makes the same noice and also herd it on JD's 90 coupe it drives me crazy sometimes I just turn up the radio. I have no clue what that is, but I'm sure someone on here has a cure for it.
John was in my car recently and we we're comparing between His '87 and my '90. Both are coupes and both do the exact same thing. That good old quality control! :)
There is an adjustment you can make to lower the window a little bit more. All you have to do is take off the center black piece in the back, and move the hatch latch(I was a poet and didn't know it)down a quarter inch. Make sure you don't move it down too much because then it won't latch at all.
