Hi,
has anyone put p275/40r17 front and p315/35r17 rear tires on their 85. Are they too wide?. I have a set from a 96 and I need to know if they will fit ok before I invest in wheel converters and mounting.

thanks.
Yeppers I ran this on my '87 z51 without one single problem. I believe the '87 and '85 have the same exact wheel dimensions/bolting patterns. You should be fine. I ran 1996 grand sport wheels w/ the same tire sizes you just mentioned.
The later 17x9.5 Corvette wheels have a 56mm offset and you will need 3/4" adapters to get the wheels to sit properly (look right) in the wheelwell. The 85-87 wheels had a 38mm offset. The adapter width also helps keep the tire away from the frame rails. You may see some rubbing on hard turns.
If the rear wheels are 17x11, they probably have a 50mm offset. Did they come off a Grand Sport coupe?? They should fit with no problem. But keep in mind that the 315/35-17 tires are getting harder to find.

Yes can you confirm that didn't even need spacers or did you?
For c4 GRAND SPORT wheels, no... no spacers are needed for an '85 or an '87. I think the wheel specifications changed in 1988 or 1989 though, so they would need spacers. The OEM c4 grand sport wheels and tire sizes bolt directly into place. No problems.
