Guy's I've refently bought a great Comp.yellow 6 speed which I love.I've got an annoying "clunck" when i apply the front brakes-not really load just a bit more than a click.Brakes work fine but I'd like to elliminate this.
I remember posts about this ages ago but can't recall what the fix is.
Can you help. Also i had the front left wheel off today to see if I could tell what the problem is-how 'snug' are the pads suppposed to be against the rotor when brake pedal not applied-mine were very snug.I took the calliper off(held by just a single bottem retaining pin with c-clip??) but nothing looked lose.
Thanks Bogus, but after searching the archives it's obvious that this is caused by not having the brake pad clips and posibly a worn calliper retaining pin. These clips are mostly missing(just 2 on one set of pads and none on the other).I'm not entirely sure how they work but from many posts from others that have descibed the problem and the fix in the past-must be it.
My only problem is where do I get the clips without buyng new sets of pads and also a retaining pin and c clip.?
Can't see them in the catalogues etc.Any ideas?
the click you are hearing is probably the disc pads moving forward against the caliper as you apply the brakes which is probably from the clips missing that hold pads in place.try napa for the clips.ask for caliper hardware kit which should have the clips in them.
Sounds like the clips on the pads.......make sure it has some first. If it does....the clips might be bent in to far. Causing the pads to ride loose in the caliper.
The clips are the ticket. I had the same thing, it made me crazy. Hardware kit was only $8-$9. I think my 96 had a brake job by a monkey that didn't notice the clips have to be changed over to the new pads and pitched them still attached to old pads. Best $8 I ever spent....good luck :seeya
Thanks Guys, you were bang on-the clips were missing on both wheels brakes.Luckily a mate of mine in our Capital Corvette club here had some spare sets of pads for his '93 ZR1 and gave me a set to do the job.
Problem solved and it's also got rid of slight rattle that sounded like something was loose in brakes or suspension-on rough surfaces anyway.
Cheers and good Vette'n .
