Son's 87 has an intermittent starting problem, acts like vats but not sure. He has a vats bypass kit, but the wires pulled out of the connector. The two wires coming from the ignition are brown and yellow, the two on the vats connector are red and black, can anyone tell me which one connects to which. Also, what else should he check. Thanks in advance for any help on this.
From previous posts, check the key (resistor chip may not be making contact), ignition switch, and VATS starter relay. Does anyone know just exactly where the relay is? All my book says is "behind the dashboard".
The Model Year 90 is under the hush panel on the drivers side. Not sure about other years. A Helms manual will have a diagram of the exact location but don't have any other years than a 90. This relay is used in about 5 other locations and is very cheap.
