When you say "dead" do you mean it no longer works or the lights and digits do not illuminate? Are you getting anything out of the vents?
It no longer works and the digits/buttons do not illuminate. Nothing out of the vents either. The radio and everything else work fine. It's like someone unplugged the head unit
google or seach forum for removing the hvac moldule and cleaning all the buttons and the board contacts. mine was on the fritz, blinking lights sometims other times black other times good.
i removed the board and cleaned all the gold pins and slightly bent them up to ensure contact. good as new. but search the forum u will find it. easy peazy.

Thanks. If the fuse checks out that's what I'll be doing next.
Try disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. Then reconnect it and turn the ignition to run, or start the engine. If there's power to the climate control unit it will default to auto and you'll get air blowing out the vents. Also, the radiator fan will turn on. If it doesn't, you'll need to pull the unit and verify power and ground at the connector. Opening the unit to get to the circuit board inside will be pointless if it isn't getting power. Have you tried tapping the face of the unit? If the circuit board pins are loose the lights may blink from tapping on the face. I pretty much did the same as VikingTrader. Bent the terminals up to make contact with the pins on the circuit board. Clean them first. Has been working perfectly since. Try the other things first. Don't tear the unit apart if you don't have to.

I assumed bending pins would require me to take it apart. Are you referring to the pins on the exterior of the unit that connect to the cable?
(BTW: that's how I first noticed. Not having to turn it off when I reconnected the battery)

The circuit board is inside the unit. You'll have to separate the face from the body. This will require breaking it. DON'T PANIC, you only have to break the plastic nibs that hold the face on. There are also two clips on the side. Before you break it open, make sure there is power at the connector. Not sure which terminal supplies power. Probably a red wire with black being ground. Do you have a FSM? If not I imagine you can Google a wire diagram for it. Probably one right here on the forum somewhere.
It turns out the wiring was messed up causing the GUAGES fuse to blow. Since I was dealing with 2 cut pink wires that looked identical I wired them the opposite way I did initially and the GUAGES fuse did not blow.
