Default Beware the DRONEs

This is my first post, so go easy on me , im still a virgin
I just got back into corvetts after a 35 year break ( first was a 62, why did I EVER SELL...) Ok , this go around I got a prime 93 standard coupe with only 90k on it. automatic with everything stock except the exhaust. has a cat back stainless magnaflow system. Not terrible but it dose have the drones at 60 mph cruise. Exhaust is brand new , came on the car when I bought it. Short of replacing it, what are my options to tone it down a notch?

Well never take a previous owners answer as gospel. sooooo I laid on my back with a light and low and behold my "cat Back" system turned out to be just new mufflers on the stock system that still has the factory resonator. So will the half inch hole and crossover pipe have any influence?

Absolutely. My system had the resonator when I added the H-Pipe. And, if I were doing it again, I'd make the holes 3/4".

Good luck!

x3 for stock mufflers. They are most effective at getting rid of the dreaded drone. The stock idle sound is a deep, low rumble. I love it.

Further evidence that a sarcasm font is needed.
There's nothing wrong with the stock sound.
Most people who make the exhaust louder will say that they did it because they like the sound, which may be true, but in my experience it's even more true that people get a loud exhaust for the same reason people get a 10,000-watt sound system -- for the attention.

I just changed my LT1 back to stock mufflers, it had Flowmasters on stock pipes sounded great from the outside but the drone was bad. I got a used set of stock someone had taken off. Muffler shop charged me $20 to change them. Could not be happier

Nope sorry dude. I live for the sound of a healthy v8. I get goose bumps when I go to the track and hear race vehicles wide open. I could care less what people think of my personal vehicles.

Bought the wifes Infiniti FX45 largely because of the way it sounded. Sounds like a raspy Maserati V8, from the factory. Look them up on YouTube.

I really think its more age related. The older you get you just want things quiet any comfy.

Go back and re-read what I posted. Has nothing to do with speed or attention.

Not everyone fits the stereo types in your head

, but let me add, "most" people.... while I do swap out the exhaust, I do it pretty much for the sound (yes, the sound - it is a bit louder than stock), the tone (I love the unique tone from corsa), and the quality of hardware - for me, stainless, mandrel bends, fit and finish, etc. my exhaust of choice is, as stated, corsa - not so loud as to draw too much attention, but it does give good overall great sound w/o drone. besides, it makes ME happy! to me, stock L98 sound is somewhat boring, and I agree the stock LT1 system is a very good factory system. corsa only has one drawback - $$$, but like anything, you get what you pay for. BTW, as for the 10000 Watt system - that, I don't get it - ??? I usually don't even turn my radio on in the corvette - between the (top off) wind noise, and the road noise, at 60 mph, you can't hear the damn thing anyway.

wow, now that brings back memories. I probably destroyed more high dollar baseball cards doing that! (by today's values) I've got to ask, did you ever use balloons. I use to put one on the front wheel, and one on the rear of my bike - it was like having dual exhaust! trouble was, they didn't last too long. rock:

Sound is a unique thing. Just like taste, everyone has a favorite. I'm a 60year old proffessional mechanic who's been around loud engines for over 40year, and have the hearing loss to prove it.I didn't mean to start conflict, and I do like the rumble with the Magnaflows, but at LEGAL cruise limits turing 1500-1600rpm the resonance in the cab is annoying enough my wife complains. above or below that range and the sound is sweet. otherwise it's like white noise, just wears on the body. So has anyone noticed a difference between putting a H pipe in front of the spare tire carrier and a X pipe installed infront of the (or replacing) the factory resonator? This would be without headers in the mix
