Trouble shooting and Diacom Connecting Issues (complex)
My 86 runs rich sometimes, sometimes it seem to run fine.
I have been trying to connect my car in ALDL (high speed) mode, and it rarley connects in this mode (maybe 1 in 50 tries) and always connects in diagnostic mode. I have the little adapter Diacom supplies for ALDL mode. One thing I noticed is that in Diagnostic mode pin B (ECM request) goes to Zero volt while in high speed mode attemps it only goes to 2.5 Volts. Is this something I should track down? or is it an issue with diacom/laptop or a sympton of my problems. Anyone have any good ideas on how to connect in ALDL. My car is running 89 code with just a higher injector constant for Ford 24lb injectors. It has the same problems with the stock chip also.

Hi there, 86 models are a pain in the posterior with Diacom!
1) is your parallel port set to uni-directional? Should not be bi-directional, nor ECP, or EPP
2) If you are using the diacom.bat file or diacom-p.bat file, add a /F following the gmecm.exe command in the file, ie gmecm.exe /F
3) What speed lapop are you using? If a pentium, you may need a replacement gmecm.exe module
I had a ThinkPad 760CD, and it would not communicate for crap with my 86. I had to go to a different laptop, an old Compaq LTE Elite 486/75 model.

How do I set the parrallel port in DOS? Which file would i have to edit? I have the labtop set in DOS and I don't have mouse to navigate window 3.1, so it makes it tough to manuver around. I forget how to use a lot of that old stuff.
I add the /F, what does this do? I use the Diacom on my Syclone, so I don't want to mess that up.

What is exactly this special adapter?
I have a second-hand Diacom that I acquired from a garage sale, and have
no adapters whatsoever. Would this adapter connect the pins E and M?
I am only able to link in DIAG mode (160 baud) with the cable and missing
adapter and would love to have 8192 baud mode working for WOT logging.
