The original owner of a 1984 Z51......35,000 miles. With that age versus miles should I replace the shocks. Did this version come with Bilstein shocks as original equipment and should that be the replacement (heavy duty or sport?????). The ride has always been incredibly stiff.....but like it that way.

Regardless of what you decide to use for replacements IF you decide to replace, identify your shocks by the option on the SPID label and hold on to them. I'd think they would resell easily for the NCRS crowd.
The '84 shocks would be a single year application as far as OE/GM is concerned and difficult to come by.
For service I'd think the base HD Bilstein might be a good purchase if you like and I haven't looked at any cataloging but I thought that in years past there weren't '84 applications included. Has that changed? I haven't looked.
I don't believe the Bilstein FG3 (GAS) option appeared until mid-production. Your SPID might display F51 or FG3 along with the other suspension codes. It might be interesting to confirm what's there.

Serious, sincere, respectful question here: Is the C4 even on the NCRS radar?

Yes I believe so - there's actually more interest than I suspected. I'm not an NCRS guy but last year I was invited to go to the NATIONAL in Virginia ( a friend had a car there he had done) for someone and I was surprised at the C4 population. There were a handful of ZR-1 cars and maybe 4 or so earlier C4's. I doubt they'll ever generate the interest of the mid-years and earlier cars but there's interest out there.
