Default 94 LT1 surging RPM

The other week I installed a new opti because the car would stal and not start back up. Now my car wants to take a while to start up and when it does it wants to surge. It was fine until today. It's not throwing any codes. Where should I start

first thing i would do is change the fuel filter. if it continues, check fuel pressure. I had a similar issue and it was the fuel pump.

Good place to start. Did you put locktight on the opti cap screws?

No I did not. When it does start you can smell raw fuel.

The car threw a service engine code. I pulled the codes with a paper clip and I got code 15 which is the coolant sensor and code 72 which is the speed sensor Would that make the car act like that?

Coolant sensors due have a tendency to get cracked/broken when doing Opti change outs. And 94's have a small splined shaft on the opti, correct? One tooth of can cause issue..

Update hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and got 35 psi with engine running. Pull the vacuum line of the regulator and get 45 psi The FSM says 41-47 psi. Also cleared the code 15 for the coolant sensor and the car rsn smooth with no surges. Getting a new VSS this afternoon for that code. And the speedo does lag behind coming to a stop and accelerating. Not sure if that ties into any of my other issues with the traction control and retarding the timing. And long cranking times to start the car.
