I bought a 92 c4 a couple months back towards the end of the cold season and I'm having a couple problems that tend to go away after the car warms up.
If it is really cold outside in the 30s maybe low 40s the Incredible Hulk wouldn't even be able to put it in gear. After it warms up its no problem. If it is already in gear and I press the clutch to crank the car it will move forward like the clutch is partially engaged, again after it warms up clutch is normal.
On a summer day it is the same but nowhere near as bad. A fresh crank of the day take a little effort to put in gear especially reverse but it is doable. Same deal though, after it is warmed up it runs great.
Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas where to start to eliminate the problem?
Sounds like there may be some contamination of the hydraulic system, and clutch fluid aka brake fluid does absorb moisture, get some fresh fluid and flush the master cylinder / slave cylinder. Then, as suggested, drain and refill the trans with new trans fluid; everyone has their favorite, but I use, and am quite happy with, the stock GM synchromesh lube sold at any Chevy dealer.
Changing out these fluids is just basic maintenance. Good luck.
