Default Oil Capicity on 93 LT1

The owners manual says the 93 LT1 holds 4.5 qts with a filter. However, when I put 4.5 qts in the engine it does not fill all the way to the top of the full line on the dip stick. Is that normal, or should I fill until it reaches the top of the fill line?

Thanks.

Mine is a L98, but is that 4.5 quarts WITH or WITHOUT a filter change? My guess it is 4.5 quarts if you do not change the filter (.5 quarts stays in the old filter) and it is 5 quarts if you change the filter; but checkyour owners manual again for the with/without clarification. Don't rely totally on this advice.

The owners manual for my 94 calls for 4.5 qts. oil and filter.

Most of us put in 5 qts to get to the line on the dipstick. When dealer did oil change (ONLY because they had to drain oil to fix a main seal leak under GMPP warranty..would never have dealer do an oil change otherwise-- too easy to do myself) they also put in 5qts.

So 5 quarts it is!
