Default Airbag Versions?

so Airbags came in our cars from 90-96

what airbags are the same or similar versions?

I am trying to determine if I am going to remove my airbag in my 1990 which I don't believe works.. I think I have an SRS light but the PO removed the bulb and at the time I did not replace the bulb

'90 is a "single year" with the OE airbag, DERM, coil and steering wheel.

'91 - '93 were the same in production and were later used as OE service replacements for a '90 but when used in a '90 required the '91 DERM, coil, steering wheel and related components.

'94+ cars were all the same in production.

Thanks, that was what I was suspecting.

There was more of an issue with the '90 C4's and the SRS light compared to other C4 years. The location of the sensor on the passenger side of the frame (under the A/C evap housing) rail was in a spot where rust could develop and the ground contact between the frame and the sensor would be lost. That would turn on the SRS light.

To access the passenger side sensor, remove the lower rear wheelwell which will give you access to the sensor. Disconnect the battery and wait for about 10 minutes to allow any residual voltage to drain from the air bag system. Disconnect the harness and remove the sensor. Remove any rust that has formed at the place where the sensor sits. Also remove any rust from the underside of the sensor bracket. Reinstall the sensor using some dielectric grease to coat the area.

It may be helpful to take a piece of rubber and use a zip tie to cover the sensor, creating a sort of umbrella. That will direct any water away from the sensor.

It can't hurt to do the driver side sensor too. You will have to remove both the rear lower wheelwell and the battery to access it. Check for rust and clean as necessary.

The FSM has a procedure to clear the SRS code.

Jeff - corrosion under the sensor on the frame is a common cause of the SIR light on the 90. If you search there is a lot of info on it. The sensor is no longer made and is rare to find if one comes up for sale.

There is a way to reset the light using a jumper switch but it doesn't always work.

You are welcome to use my tech 1 to reset it if you fix the grounding issue.
