Default Distributer Adjustment

I've got a pit of a pinging at WOT and I think I need to back off the timing a little bit. Problem is, I had it in the shop last year to have the intake resealed, when it was put back on the connector to the distributer wires is against the plenum. Now I can't drop the timing. any tips to correcting this? Thanks.

It's not clear what the problem is...

Is the wire loom blocking access to the bolt??? Or are the wires stretched so tight that you can't move the distributor to adjust???

Where the wires (not the plug wires) plug into the side of the distributor. There is a *** on the side that they plug into, this hits the plenum when I try to slow down the timing.

Just a guess... but it sounds like they put the distributor back in one tooth out of time, causing you to have to move the distributor farther around than would be normal just to achieve the timing you now have. The fix, if this is the case, is to remove the distributor and reinsert it in the correct position. It shouldn't be hard to do, frustrating maybe due to lack of clearance, but not hard.

Good Luck!! :flag

...Or you could just jump the plug wires one terminal, then adjust the timing...

But I'd do as Frodo suggested; pull the dist, set the motor at TDC, and drop it back in...Always takes me a bit of time, as it's hard to estimate the amount of "twist", but that way is best...

Don't forget a new gasket...
