I have a stock 1988, 35th Anniv. model. I am thinking of deleting the mufflers with a straight pipe to the original tips for more/different exhaust note. If I delete the cat converter will I possibly throw a CEL or code? Is there an actual muffler before or after the cat and also the 2 back mufflers right before the tips? Thank you for any and all replies.
There is no O2 sensor after the cat, so it wouldn't throw a code. The mufflers are at the very back of the exhaust right before the tips. There will probably be 2 little pre-cats on the front Y before the main cat unless someone has already deleted them.

Thanks for the reply, I had the shop remove the mufflers and put on straight pipe to new tips then it was discovered my Y-pipe had split so I'm waiting on a new Y-pipe. I'm anxious to hear the results.
Sounds great, I kept my cat, am going with a new Y-pipe, no mufflers and straight-cut chrome 2.75" tips. I recently put Flowmaster 40 series on my Dodge Dakota 4.7 and really like the sound of it so if I'm not happy with the muffler delete, I may go that way. It's funny how each engine can sound so different with the same muffler series, I had the 40 series on a Ford 302 and it sounded like a diesel train engine-not what I was after at all.
