Ever since I have had the car (2 years) the ABS light comes on during a country run. Not while driving around town.
So, if I take the car out into the country and maintain the speed limit of 110 kms per hour, after around 5 to 10 minutes the ABS light will come on.... in the last month the SES light now comes on exactly the same time as the ABS light.
Because no lights come on at town speeds at all no matter how long I am driving it has me beat.
Ever since I have had the car I am extremely cautious in not getting close to the cars in front and I have found the brakes to be adequate in normal stopping.
There is no hardness in the brake pedal and the brakes themselves feel normal and do the job.
Knowing a 27 year car will have some issues due to age of components this is another one I would like to identify. I have read that a new relay is not available for the ABS system on an 88 Corvette... is that correct.
I had problems with the ABS brake relay when I got my '88 and had to make a replacement because the right relay is no longer available and newer relays are wired differently internally. I can't help on why the lights are coming on in country driving unless the wind is blowing a wire so that it doesn't make a good connection or something like that. But did want to make sure you are aware that the ABS light just means a problem with the ABS not your basic brakes, i.e., you should have good brakes and pedal but will not have the computer controlled pulsing that ABS uses to prevent lockup. Hope this helps a little. Good luck.
