has anyone out there had any problems with emissions inspections after the following mods: 160 deg thermostat, relocation of intake air temp sensor, throttle body coolant bypass. I was told these mods would effect fuel delivery, so the car runs a little richer? I live in MA and we get emission inspections everyother year. Also how bad is fuel economy effected ( every day driver)
You needn't worry with those modifications. I have a Lingenfelter 383 stroker. It was nearly cleaner than my stock 350 with no pre-cats, long headers etc(main cat was in place) and it was a dyno smog test. I think they're using a new system now here in CT. I'll let you know how it does in March when they re-open it.
So long as your O2 sensor is in tact you should have no problems.
To check it jumper ALDL pins A&B, start the engine and wait a minute or two for the SES flashes to settle to about 1Hz. Note the flashes and raise idle to a steady 2,000rpm. If the On/Off duration is about equal in length the ECM is in closed loop mode and the O2 sensor is fine.
With my mods I easily passed the OH E-Check dyno emissions test in June.
Your motor only runs a little richer at WOT; the ECM uses the O2 sensor readings at part throttle to regulate the A/F.
